We have had involvement in the following notable cases:-

  • We represented the joint liquidators of two Isle of Man companies that were involved in the collapse of a Mutual Fund in the Bahamas. This required urgent applications in respect of the liquidations, the pursuit of the wrongdoer through the Isle of Man Court (where a $US 32,000,000 judgment was obtained), enforcement of this in the United States of America and the co-ordination of actions in the Bahamas, the Isle of Man and the United States (including pursuing the claim in the subsequent bankruptcy proceedings)
  • We advised the High Bailiff in his capacity as the Coroner of Inquests in respect of a letter of request for evidence to be obtained in another jurisdiction from the owner of a vessel (the Solway Harvester) that sank in Isle of Man waters and which led to the loss of many lives
  • We represented the liquidator of a company that had been used as a vehicle to misappropriate client funds. This required asset tracing, consideration of trust issues and obtaining a disclosure order against the Government in respect of papers prepared in the investigation of the criminal prosecution
  • A successful out of Court settlement was achieved following the summons to Court of a de facto director of an Isle of Man company to obtain papers and information pursuant to Section 206 of the Companies Act 1931 (as amended) which resulted in a unexpected recovery for the creditors
  • We represented a residents’ association in the successful defence of a Petition of Doleance (judicial review application) regarding a planning decision for a significant proposed residential development in the South of the Island
